LONDON, UK / ACCESS Newswire / October 20, 2026 / My Estate Kit, which publishes practical guides and document kits for families in England and Wales, has launched the 5-28-6 Method, a plan that sets out what relatives need to do in the first five days, the first 28 days and the first six months after a death.

The launch comes as families prepare for a change confirmed by HMRC. For deaths on or after 6 April 2027, most unused pension funds will count towards the value of an estate for Inheritance Tax. The personal representatives, often a grown child, will need to find every pension scheme, report its value and pay any tax due. Many will not know which pensions exist.
My Estate Kit says most families in England and Wales make the same five calls after a death, and each one hides a common problem.
The first call is to the GP, or to 999 if the death was unexpected. Nothing can move until the death is verified.
The second is to a funeral director. Families often think they must find the money that week. In fact, a bank can usually pay the funeral director from the account of the person who died, as long as it receives a final invoice, not an estimate.
The third is to the register office. A death must normally be registered within five days. Families who order too few certified copies of the death certificate can wait weeks for more.
The fourth is Tell Us Once. It informs HMRC, the DWP, the DVLA, the Passport Office and the local council in one step. It does not inform banks, private pensions, insurers or energy suppliers.
The fifth is to the bank’s bereavement team. Once a bank is told, an account in a sole name is frozen. A Power of Attorney also ends on the day of death.
“A will says who inherits. It does not tell your family who to call first, or where the pension papers are,” said Raphael, founder of My Estate Kit.
“We built My Estate Kit so that the person who makes those calls has every answer in one folder, in the right order.”
The kit turns these steps into checklists and guided fill-in sheets for accounts, pensions, insurance and documents, so that a family can complete it in advance. It is delivered by email to print at home, with a 30-day money-back guarantee.
As of 17 October 2026, My Estate Kit is rated 4.6 out of 5 on Trustpilot from 267 reviews, which families can read on the My Estate Kit reviews page.
