October 22, 2026 – PRESSADVANTAGE –
As homes across the country move into the 2026-2027 heating season, Sprayman is directing homeowners toward a single fall task that addresses two cold-weather problems at once: heated air escaping through foundation gaps, and rodents moving indoors through those same openings.
The two issues often share the same entry points. Rim joists, sill plates and utility penetrations at the foundation are common locations for both air leakage and rodent entry. Sealing them is a single task that addresses both concerns before temperatures fall.

The timing reflects conditions on both fronts. The National Pest Management Association estimates that rodents invade about 21 million U.S. homes each winter, and the association observes Rodent Awareness Week each October. On the energy side, air leakage accounts for a significant share of home heating and cooling loss, according to the U.S. Department of Energy’s air-sealing guidance.
“Heat loss and rodent entry very often start at the same gaps around the foundation,” Sprayman said. “Treating both as one sealing job, rather than two separate problems, is a more efficient way for a homeowner to approach the season.”
To support that approach, Sprayman offers its Insulation and Pest Block DIY insulation kit. The kit contains 12 cans of Spraycoat closed-cell insulation foam, 2 cans of window and door low-expansion foam, 2 cans of pest block foam, a spray foam gun, foam gun cleaner, and protective gear including a mask, coverall and safety glasses.
Spraycoat is rated at R-5.66 per inch and carries a Class A fire rating under ASTM E84. At a rated yield of about 20 board feet per can, the kit’s 12 cans provide roughly 240 board feet at 1 inch. Under Sprayman’s own floor joist coverage table, that is roughly enough to bring about 100 square feet of floor joist insulation bays to R-13.
Sprayman frames the pest component as prevention and exclusion, meaning sealing entry points before cold weather arrives. The foam is not presented as a product that repels or eliminates rodents, and the company notes that NPMA advises professional help for an active infestation rather than do-it-yourself sealing.
“Sealing in the fall, before nighttime temperatures drop, is far easier than reacting in the middle of winter,” Sprayman added. “The work goes more smoothly when the weather still cooperates and the gaps are accessible.”
The product calls for adequate ventilation, use of the included protective equipment, and adherence to the temperature ranges printed on the label. Homeowners following along with application can also find Sprayman on TikTok, where the company shares product and technique content.
